If you crave a resort-like atmosphere and want to take a stroll while looking out at the wide blue sea, the Hashirimizu Kannonzaki Boardwalk is the place to go. The wooden deck promenade built on the north side of Kannonzaki, the gateway to Tokyo Bay, offers a great sense of openness. Because it is situated right next to the ocean, you can enjoy an open-air walk while feeling the sea breeze and listening to the sound of the waves. In the distance, facing you across the sea on the opposite bank, is the city of Kisarazu. Enjoy spending time sitting on one of the nearby benches watching ships from around the world passing gracefully by.
The Kannonzaki Lighthouse and Kannonzaki Park walking courses are particularly recommended. Kannonzaki Lighthouse was the first Western-style lighthouse in Japan, built for the navigation of foreign ships when the country opened to the outside world. It was completed in 1869 by a French engineer. The lighthouse was rebuilt after several disasters, including the Great Kanto Earthquake. The lighthouse seen operating today is the third generation.
Kannonzaki Park, which takes up the entire mountain of Kannonzaki, is a treasure trove of nature. You can enjoy the mountain as well as the sea at this park, which has an abundance of wonderful scenery.

While strolling along the Hashirimizu Kannonzaki Boardwalk, you will be struck by the sight of an example of modern architecture featuring glass surfaces. It is the Yokosuka Museum of Art, which boasts a collection of masterpieces of modern and contemporary art related to Yokosuka and Miura Peninsula. It was built in 2007 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the municipal system of Yokosuka City, based on the concept that "the entire environment is a museum." Because it is situated in a location with a view of Kannonzaki to the south and Tokyo Bay in front, it was once selected as one of the top museums in Japan for its spectacular views. The interior of the building is designed in such a way that the architecture itself becomes the scenery, allowing you to enjoy both the building as well as the artwork.

A particularly scenic spot at the Yokosuka Museum of Art is the rooftop plaza. The ocean views from the rooftop plaza are spectacular, and, in fact, the spot has been certified as a "Lover's Sanctuary."
When you get hungry, you can go to "Acquamare," an on-site Italian restaurant at the museum. The restaurant serves food made with ingredients from the nearby areas.

One of the dishes you should definitely try when you visit Yokosuka is "Yokosuka Navy Curry." Today, Japan has its own established style of curry, which originated in the late 19th century when the Imperial Japanese Navy began making curry based on the recipe of the British Navy. Yokosuka, which was the center of the navy at the time, was the very place where Japanese-style curry originated. The curry of that time was mentioned in a book published in 1908, and the current Yokosuka Navy Curry is a reproduction based on that recipe.
It can be found served at many locations in Yokosuka City; Yokosuka Navy Curry Honpo stands out in particular, because one of its main features is that it is faithfully reproduced following the original authentic recipe. Because water and fuel were so precious in the navy, the ingredients are finely diced so they can be heated up quickly. Also, the authentic taste of the past is recreated down to the smallest detail, such as always serving vegetable salad, a glass of milk, and mango chutney on the side. The flavor of the vegetables and fruit combined with the slight spiciness of the curry spices makes it easy to overeat.

2-minute walk from Yokosuka-chuo Station on the Keikyu LineThe place where you can best experience Yokosuka, which has developed as a naval port town, is Dobuita Street, a short walk from Shioiri Station. Many of the people you can see passing by are related to the US Navy, and the area is lined with signs in English, giving it an exotic feel. A fusion of both the past and present of Yokosuka, a city that has long been under the influence of the US, is sure to be a fun stroll.

When it's dinnertime on Dobuita Street, you can't go wrong with the Yokosuka Navy Burger! It is served in a number of restaurants, following the traditional recipe provided by the US Navy Yokosuka base, including the use of at least 170g of 100% beef. For dessert, check out the Yokosuka Cherry Cheesecake. It is accented with cherry blossoms, a symbol of Japan.
